Today I want to talk about a foundational topic, as I believe this prevents many people from taking action (and regretting it).
Are you obese without realizing it?
When I coach clients to help them lose weight in a smarter way, we always start with a baseline measurement of various metrics.
Many are surprised to hear that this data shows that they are actually in the official weight category ‘obese’.

Why don’t people realize they’re obese?
I thought about why many of my clients don’t see themselves as obese, even though they clearly fit the definition.
Based on my experience I concluded that for most of them the term ‘obesity’ triggers images that are in reality classified as ‘morbidly obese’.
As many people believe they are a long time away from ending up in a Jerry Springer or Dr. Phil episode where the fire department has to cut them out of their house and bring you down with a fork lift truck, this prevents them from:
- Realizing the problem
- Taking action
